African Reserve

The Réserve de Africaine de Sigean is a zoo-like area of about 300 hectares in the south of France (Occitania region).

Situated in the Etangs (coastal lakes) region near Sigean (15 km south of Narbonne), the park is easily accessible by road. The animals in this park are allowed to live a near-natural “wild” life thanks to the spacious open spaces.

The extensive area has savannah and bush land at different altitudes as well as several water and swamp areas, completely embedded in the Mediterranean landscape of southern France.

The Réserve de Africaine de Sigean participates in international research and conservation projects focusing on Africa.

A special attraction for visitors is the opportunity to explore the savannah-like landscape on marked trails in their own cars and to encounter animal species such as zebras, buffalos, rhinos and ostriches in a way that is comparable to what is possible only in African national parks.

The particularly “dangerous” attraction is the visit at close range in the delimited areas of the lion and bear enclosures; here the lions also move completely freely on the single-lane car roadway, which was created for the visitors.
